The chocolate notes become more pronounced, and there’s this wonderful spiciness that develops – not pepper exactly, but something more sophisticated. Almost like baking spices.
I’ve smoked these down to about an inch and a half without any issues. No harshness, no need to purge, just consistent quality smoke right to the end. That’s the mark of truly exceptional tobacco and expert construction.
The finish lingers too – in a good way. Twenty minutes after putting one down, I’m still getting flavor echoes on my palate. That’s something you just don’t get with most cigars, even premium ones.
Real Talk: Who Should Buy These (And Who Shouldn’t)
Let’s be honest about the elephant in the room – these aren’t cheap. At all. I haven’t seen official pricing yet, but based on similar anniversary releases, you’re probably looking at $40-60 per stick, minimum. Maybe more depending on your source and availability.
Are they worth it? For experienced smokers who appreciate Cuban craftsmanship and have the budget for premium smokes, absolutely. These are special occasion cigars – the kind you break out for celebrations, important milestones, or when you’re trying to impress someone who knows their tobacco.
But if you’re new to cigars, or if you’re primarily a budget smoker, skip these for now. Not because they’re not excellent – they absolutely are – but because you’ll get more education and enjoyment working your way up through more affordable Montecristos first. Try some regular production Monte No. 2s or No. 4s, learn the brand’s flavor profile, and then come back to these when you can really appreciate what makes them special.
Also, if you’re someone who prefers fuller-bodied, in-your-face cigars (think Padron Anniversary series or Liga Privada), these might not hit the right notes for you. The Montecristo 80th anniversary cigars are sophisticated and complex, but they’re not aggressive. They’re more about finesse than power.
Storage and Handling: Don’t Screw These Up
