About This Cigar
A luxurious Cedar Petacas presentation of Cohiba Siglo VI cigars. Each cigar is hand-rolled and meticulously aged, with the cedar packaging enhancing the natural tobacco flavors. A testament to fine Cuban craftsmanship and tradition.
Tasting Notes
Rich, complex profile with notes of cedar, leather, coffee beans, roasted almonds, honey, and dark chocolate. The cedar Petacas aging adds subtle sweetness and aromatic complexity. Medium to full body with exceptional balance and refinement.
My First Dance with Cedar Petacas Cohiba Siglo VI – A Love Story Twenty Years in the Making
I’ll never forget the first time I laid eyes on a Cedar Petacas Five Cigars Cohiba Siglo VI presentation. It was 2018, sitting in my buddy Miguel’s living room in Tampa – you know, one of those guys who somehow always gets his hands on the good stuff before anyone else. He’d just gotten back from a trip to Switzerland (lucky bastard) and pulls out this gorgeous cedar box like he’s showing off the Crown Jewels.
“Try this,” he says, like it’s no big deal. But I knew better. After two decades of chasing premium smokes, you develop a sixth sense for when something special’s about to happen.
The presentation alone was enough to make me weak in the knees. Five pristine Siglo VIs nestled in their cedar cradle, each one looking like it was hand-selected by the tobacco gods themselves. But here’s the thing – and I know some of you are gonna disagree with me on this – I actually think the cedar petacas packaging makes these cigars smoke even better than the standard boxes. Yeah, I said it.
First Impressions: When Packaging Actually Matters
Look, I’ve been around long enough to know that fancy packaging doesn’t make up for mediocre tobacco. Hell, I’ve smoked some incredible sticks that came wrapped in newspaper (don’t ask). But these cedar petacas aren’t just for show. That cedar’s been seasoning these beauties, and you can smell it the moment you crack open the box.
The Siglo VI itself is a gorgeous specimen – 5.9 inches of pure Cuban craftsmanship with that perfect 52 ring gauge. The wrapper on these particular cigars had this gorgeous Colorado shade with just enough oil to catch the light. Not too veiny, not too pristine either. Just right.
What really caught my attention was the foot. Pre-light, I’m getting notes of barnyard funk (in the best way possible), sweet cedar from that petacas aging, and something that reminded me of my grandmother’s spice cabinet. Cinnamon maybe? Hard to pin down, but it was there.
The Flavor Journey: Why I Don’t Believe in “Thirds”
Okay, here’s where I’m gonna ruffle some feathers. All these reviews that break cigars down into perfect little thirds – first third this, second third that. That’s not how cigars work, at least not the good ones. A premium stick like the Siglo VI is more like a jazz performance. It flows, it surprises you, it circles back to themes you thought were gone.
The first few draws were all about that cedar influence. It’s subtle – not like you’re chewing on a pencil or anything – but it adds this incredible depth that you just don’t get from regular box storage. There’s sweetness there too, almost like honey drizzled over toast.
About an inch in, things started getting interesting. The flavor profile opened up like a flower in the morning sun (yeah, I just went there). Leather notes started creeping in, along with what I can only describe as fresh coffee beans. Not brewed coffee – the actual beans you’d find in a high-end roastery.
Here’s where it gets good though. Halfway through, this cigar threw me a curveball I wasn’t expecting. Nuts. Roasted almonds specifically, with just a hint of salt. It was so distinct I actually stopped smoking for a minute to process what was happening. Miguel looked at me like I’d lost my mind, but that’s what makes these siglo limited reserve cigars so special – they keep you guessing.
The final portion (see, I’m not calling it a third) brought everything together beautifully. All those flavors I’d been experiencing started harmonizing like a well-rehearsed orchestra. The cedar, the coffee, the nuts, even a little bit of dark chocolate that snuck in during the last few inches. It was one of those smoking experiences that reminds you why you fell in love with cigars in the first place.
What I Paired It With (And What You Should Try)
Pairing recommendations are tricky because everyone’s palate is different, but I’ll tell you what worked for me. That first smoke with Miguel, we paired it with some 18-year-old Flor de Caña rum. The vanilla and caramel notes in that rum complemented the cedar aging perfectly.
Since then, I’ve tried these with various drinks, and honestly? My favorite pairing might surprise you. Espresso. Not just any espresso – I’m talking about a proper Cuban cortadito with that perfect layer of foam. The coffee enhances those roasted notes in the cigar without overpowering the more subtle flavors.
For you whiskey drinkers, I’ve had good luck with a Highland single malt. Nothing too peaty – you don’t want to compete with the cigar. I tried it with some Glenlivet 18, and the combination was pretty damn spectacular.
Wine pairing? This is where some of you traditionalists are gonna hate me. Skip the port. I know, I know – everyone says port with Cubans. But try a good Barolo instead. The tannins play beautifully with the leather notes, and the fruit doesn’t compete with the cedar influence.
Who Should Buy These (And Who Shouldn’t)
Let’s be real for a minute. These aren’t cheap, and they’re not easy to find. If you’re new to cigars, start somewhere else. This isn’t a beginner’s stick, not because it’s too strong (it’s actually pretty medium-bodied), but because you won’t appreciate what makes it special.
These are perfect for:
- Experienced smokers who want to taste what proper cedar aging does to tobacco
- Collectors looking for something unique (the petacas presentation is getting harder to find)
- Anyone celebrating something special – these feel like an occasion
- People who appreciate craftsmanship and are willing to pay for it
Skip these if:
- You prefer full-bodied, knock-your-socks-off strength
- You’re looking for an everyday smoke
- You don’t notice (or care about) subtle flavor differences
- You’re not willing to invest in proper storage
Storage Tips from Someone Who’s Made All the Mistakes
Here’s something most reviews won’t tell you – these cedar petacas cigars need special consideration for storage. Don’t just throw them in your regular humidor and forget about them. The cedar packaging means they’re already seasoned a certain way, and dramatic humidity changes can mess with that balance.
I keep mine at 65% humidity, maybe 66% max. Any higher and you risk losing some of that cedar character that makes them special. Temperature-wise, I’m more flexible – anywhere from 65-70°F seems to work fine.
And for God’s sake, don’t remove them from the petacas until you’re ready to smoke them. I’ve seen people transfer these to their main humidor “for convenience.” Don’t do it. You’re paying for that cedar aging – let it keep doing its job.
The Controversial Take: Are They Worth the Premium?
Alright, here’s where I’m gonna lose some of you. Are these better than regular Siglo VIs? Yes, absolutely. The cedar aging adds a layer of complexity that you just can’t get any other way. But are they twice as good? Three times as good?
That’s where it gets complicated. If you’re purely looking at flavor per dollar, probably not. But cigars aren’t just about flavor. They’re about experience, craftsmanship, rarity, and yes – even bragging rights. When I smoke one of these, I’m not just smoking tobacco. I’m smoking a piece of cigar history.
The presentation matters too. When you’re entertaining clients or celebrating with friends, pulling out one of these cedar petacas sends a message. It says you know quality when you see it, and you’re willing to invest in it.
What About Aging Them Further?
This is a question I get a lot. Should you age these further, or smoke them now? My take? These are already perfectly aged when you get them. The cedar has done its job. You can certainly age them more if you want, but you’re not gonna see the dramatic improvements you might get from aging fresh cigars.
I’ve got a couple from that original box Miguel shared that I’m saving for special occasions. They’re still smoking beautifully three years later, but they’re not dramatically different from how they were when I first tried them.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long do these last in the cedar petacas? In my experience, they’ll stay perfect for years if you store them properly. The cedar actually helps protect them from humidity fluctuations.
Can you buy the petacas separately and age your own cigars? I’ve tried this. It doesn’t work the same way. Whatever Cohiba does with their cedar aging process, it’s not something you can easily replicate at home.
Are these limited editions? Not exactly. They’re special presentations, but Cohiba produces them regularly. That said, they’re way less common than regular boxed cigars, so when you see them, grab them.
How do they compare to other siglo limited reserve cigars? In terms of flavor complexity, these are right up there with the best. The cedar aging gives them an edge over most other limited presentations I’ve tried.
Should I remove the band before smoking? Personal preference, but I always leave it on until it starts loosening naturally. No point in risking damage to the wrapper for aesthetics.
Final Thoughts: Worth the Hunt
Look, I’m not gonna tell you these are life-changing cigars. After twenty years in this hobby, I’ve learned that perfect cigars are like perfect anything else – they don’t exist. But these Cedar Petacas Cohiba Siglo VIs come pretty damn close to cigar perfection.
The cedar aging adds genuine complexity without overwhelming the base tobacco. The presentation is gorgeous. The construction is flawless. And most importantly, they provide that rare smoking experience that reminds you why you love cigars in the first place.
Are they expensive? Yes. Are they hard to find? Absolutely. Are they worth it? If you appreciate craftsmanship and want to experience what proper cedar aging can do to premium tobacco, then yes – they’re worth every penny.
Just don’t expect to find them on every corner. When you do see them available, my advice is simple: buy first, ask questions later. You won’t regret it.
