Cohiba is one of Cuba's most storied marcas — every cigar hand-rolled in Havana from sun-grown Vuelta Abajo leaf, aged and crafted by master torcedores under the official Habanos S.A. seal.
It's not just a cigar. It's an experience reserved for the true connoisseur.

Every Cohiba Seleccion 50 Aniversario Travel Humidor is guaranteed 100% authentic, sourced directly from Habanos S.A. with the official seal and full traceability from Vuelta Abajo to your door.
I’m sitting here at 35,000 feet, somewhere over the Atlantic, and I’ve just cracked open what might be the most beautiful cohiba humidor I’ve owned in my twenty-three years of serious collecting. The flight attendant keeps glancing over—can’t blame her, really. This thing’s a showstopper.
The Cohiba Selección 50 Aniversario Travel Humidor isn’t just another fancy box with cigars in it. It’s… well, let me back up a second. I’ve been burned before by travel humidors. Most are overpriced junk that can’t hold humidity worth a damn, or they’re so bulky you need a sherpa to carry them. This one? Different story entirely.
The moment you lay eyes on this beast, you know someone at Habanos S.A. actually gave a shit. The presentation box alone had me raising an eyebrow—glossy black with that unmistakable Cohiba gold trim. Very elegant. Very… Cuban, if that makes sense.
But here’s where it gets interesting. The travel humidor itself is compact enough to fit in most carry-on bags (I measured: 13.5″ x 9″ x 4.5″), yet it doesn’t feel cheap or flimsy. The Spanish cedar construction is solid—none of that particleboard nonsense you see in knockoffs. And that lock mechanism? Satisfying click every time.
Inside, you’ve got space for exactly twenty cigars in individual slots. No cramming, no worrying about wrapper damage. Each slot is precisely cut, which tells me they weren’t cutting corners on the manufacturing process. (Though at this price point, they damn well better not be.)
Look, I don’t care how pretty your humidor is if it can’t keep my cigars in smoking condition. I’ve had too many $300 sticks turn into expensive kindling because of shoddy humidity control.
This Cohiba travel humidor comes with a built-in humidification system—nothing fancy, just a reliable foam humidifier that does the job. I’ve been testing it for about six weeks now, taking it on three separate trips (Vegas, London, and a long weekend in the Bahamas). The analog hygrometer has stayed consistently between 68-72% RH. Not perfect, but more than acceptable for travel conditions.
One thing I learned the hard way: don’t over-humidify before flying. Made that mistake on my first trip and ended up with some slightly spongy Robustos. Lesson learned. Keep it around 65% if you’re flying commercial—the cabin pressure changes will push it up a few points.
Now we get to the good stuff. The humidor comes loaded with twenty Cohiba Selección Reserva cigars—a mix of different vitolas that showcase the brand’s range. You’ve got Coronas, Robustos, a few Lanceros (my personal weakness), and some Churchills.
These aren’t your everyday Cohibas. They’re aged a minimum of three years, and you can taste the difference immediately. The wrapper leaf has that oily, dark chocolate appearance that makes you want to smoke one before you even light it up.
I smoked my first one on the balcony of my hotel in Nassau, watching the sunset paint the Caribbean orange and pink. The cold draw was perfect—just enough resistance to know it was rolled properly, with hints of cedar and cocoa coming through. These are special occasion cigars, no doubt about it.
The burn was exceptional across all the vitolas I’ve tried so far (about eight cigars deep at this point). Even, cool, with that distinctive Cohiba flavor profile that’s made them legendary. Rich, complex, with enough strength to satisfy without overwhelming your palate.
I’m not going to bore you with the usual “first third, second third, final third” breakdown because that’s not how cigars work in real life. At least not for me.
What I will tell you is this: these cigars taste like money. In the best possible way. There’s an immediate richness that coats your palate—leather, dark chocolate, maybe a hint of coffee. As you progress through the smoke, you start picking up more subtle notes. Almonds. A touch of white pepper. Some earthiness that reminds me of fresh tobacco leaves.
The Lanceros (my favorites in this collection) have this incredible concentration of flavor. They burn slower than the other vitolas, giving you more time to appreciate the complexity. I paired one with a glass of Zacapa 23 rum while sitting on my deck last weekend, and… damn. That’s what cigar smoking is all about.
The Churchills are showstoppers for special occasions. Big, bold, plenty of smoke production. I shared one with my brother-in-law during his retirement party—took us nearly two hours to finish it, and the flavor stayed consistent throughout. No bitter finish, no harsh notes. Just pure Cuban tobacco craftsmanship.
Over the years, I’ve learned that pairing is half the fun of premium cigars. With these Cohibas, I’ve had some fantastic combinations:
I’ve also tried them with champagne (Dom Pérignon 2010) and while it was certainly luxurious, the pairing didn’t work as well as I’d hoped. The bubbles and acidity clashed with the tobacco’s richness. Your mileage may vary, but I’d stick with aged spirits and fortified wines.
Let’s be honest about price first. This isn’t a budget purchase. You’re looking at serious money for this cohiba humidor and its contents. If you’re just getting into cigars, or if spending $2,000+ on tobacco makes you queasy, skip this. There are plenty of excellent options that won’t require you to refinance your house.
This is for the collector who already has a well-stocked humidor at home but wants something portable and prestigious for travel. It’s for the executive who entertains clients and needs cigars that make a statement. It’s for the enthusiast who’s been smoking for years and wants to treat themselves to something truly special.
If you’re the type who smokes cigars while mowing the lawn or watching TV, these aren’t for you. These require attention. They demand respect. They’re meant to be savored, not consumed casually.
I’d also recommend this for anyone who travels frequently on business and wants to bring quality cigars along. The humidor is TSA-friendly (I’ve had zero issues in seven flights), and having twenty premium cigars at your disposal is a game-changer for extended trips.
A few things I’ve learned through trial and error with this particular humidor:
First, season it properly before your first use, just like any cedar humidor. Even though it comes pre-loaded, the wood needs time to stabilize. I gave mine 48 hours with just a damp cloth and the humidifier before adding the cigars back.
Second, check that seal regularly. The rubber gasket around the lid does a good job, but travel is hard on equipment. I inspect mine before every trip and apply a tiny bit of petroleum jelly if it seems to be drying out.
Third, don’t store this thing in your car or anywhere with extreme temperature fluctuations. I made that mistake once during a summer trip to Arizona. Came back to cigars that were technically fine but noticeably affected by the heat cycling.
The humidifier foam needs replacement every six months or so, depending on usage. Don’t try to refill it with tap water—use distilled water or a 50/50 propylene glycol solution. I prefer the PG solution because it’s more stable in varying climates.
Here’s where I might ruffle some feathers: I think this humidor is actually underpriced for what you get. Yeah, I said it. Underpriced.
Consider what you’re buying: twenty aged Cohibas that would cost $50-75 each individually, plus a legitimate travel humidor that would easily run $400-500 on its own. The math works out, especially when you factor in the presentation and the fact that these cigars are specifically selected for this release.
I’ve seen people complain about the cost, but those same people will drop $300 on a single bottle of wine they’ll finish in one evening. At least these cigars will last you months (if you have any self-control).
The analog hygrometer could be better. It’s accurate enough, but I’ve grown accustomed to digital precision in my home humidors. Not a deal-breaker, just a minor irritation.
The lock, while satisfying to use, isn’t TSA-approved. You’ll need to leave it unlocked when flying, which isn’t ideal from a security standpoint. Though realistically, if someone’s rifling through your luggage, locked humidor latches aren’t going to stop them anyway.
I also wish they’d included a travel case or sleeve for the humidor itself. The finish shows fingerprints and minor scratches easily, and some protection would’ve been nice at this price point.
How long do the cigars stay fresh in travel conditions? I’ve kept cigars in this humidor for up to three weeks while traveling, and they were perfect when I finally smoked them. The key is maintaining proper humidity and avoiding extreme temperatures.
Can you fit other cigars in there? Absolutely. The slots are sized for standard ring gauges, so most cigars will fit fine. I’ve mixed in some Padróns and Davidoffs without any issues.
Is it worth buying if you don’t travel much? Probably not. The premium you’re paying is largely for the travel functionality. If you just want aged Cohibas, buy them individually from a reputable dealer.
How does it compare to other travel humidors? Night and day difference. Most travel humidors are plastic garbage that barely maintain humidity. This is legitimate furniture-grade construction that happens to be portable.
If you’ve got the budget and you appreciate truly exceptional cigars, yes. This cohiba humidor delivers on both form and function in ways that most premium tobacco products don’t.
The cigars alone justify a significant portion of the cost, and the humidor is something you’ll use for years. I can see myself still traveling with this thing a decade from now, long after the original cigars are gone.
Is it essential? No. Will it change your life? Probably not. But will it provide genuine enjoyment and satisfaction every time you open that lid? Absolutely.
Sometimes that’s worth the price of admission.
