Few cigars carry a name as storied as the Romeo y Julieta Churchill. Romeo y Julieta has been one of Havana’s most beloved houses since 1875, and this Julieta No. 2 vitola became forever linked to Sir Winston Churchill, who permitted his name to be used on the format from the mid 1950s. Presented in a protective aluminum tube, each Churchill arrives in pristine condition, the cedar wrapper sealed against time until you are ready to light up. It is a commanding 7 inch by 47 ring gauge format that has long stood as the benchmark for the classic medium bodied Havana.
The opening third settles in smooth and creamy, leaning on gentle cedar and a soft note of toasted bread that sets a relaxed pace. As the burn reaches the middle, the blend of selected filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo region opens into supple leather, sweet cream, and a measured thread of spice. The final third grows richer and rounder, with coffee and cocoa tones backed by that signature peppery twang that Romeo y Julieta smokers know well. Across more than an hour of smoking, the cigar stays balanced rather than aggressive, rewarding patience over power.
The aluminum tube is a fine short term home, yet it is not a substitute for proper humidity over the long haul. For resting the cigar, hold your humidor steady at roughly 65 to 70 percent relative humidity and a temperature near 18 degrees Celsius, which is about 64 degrees Fahrenheit. A medium bodied Churchill like this one tends to mellow gracefully with a year or two of patient rest, allowing the cedar and cream to marry and the spice to soften. Keep the tube cap loose or remove the cigar entirely so it can breathe with the rest of your collection.
This is a cigar for the smoker who values a long, unhurried session and a flavor that never tips into harshness. If you appreciate refined, balanced Havanas and have the better part of an hour to give, the Churchill delivers handsomely. Newcomers stepping up from milder sticks will find it approachable, while seasoned aficionados return to it as a dependable benchmark. The tubed presentation also makes it a thoughtful gift or a reliable travel companion.
What size is the Romeo y Julieta Churchill?
It is a Churchill, known in Havana as the Julieta No. 2 vitola, measuring 7.0 inches (178 mm) in length with a 47 ring gauge.
How strong is this cigar?
It sits in the mild to medium range, a balanced and aromatic smoke rather than a powerhouse, which makes it accessible while still satisfying experienced palates.
Why does it come in a tube?
The aluminum tube protects the wrapper and helps preserve freshness, making each cigar ideal for travel or gifting, though a properly humidified humidor remains best for long term storage.
