About the H. Upmann Robustos Añejados

H. Upmann is one of the oldest names in the Cuban cigar world, founded in Havana in 1844 by the German banker Hermann Upmann, and the marca has long been associated with elegant, refined smokes rather than heavy power. The Robustos Añejados belongs to the Habanos Añejados program, in which fully made cigars are rested in their cabinets for several years before release. The word “añejados” is simply Spanish for “aged,” and in practice these robustos spend roughly five to eight years maturing before they reach the humidor. That extended rest is the whole point here, softening the tobacco and knitting the flavors together into something noticeably more mellow and married than a freshly rolled robusto of the same blend.

Flavor profile by thirds

The opening third is creamy and smooth, leaning on cedar and a touch of spice, with sweet undertones that several smokers compare to crème brûlée alongside light mineral and floral hints. Through the middle the cigar grows rounder, the early pepper recedes, and roasted nuts and almonds take the lead over a soft, sweetened body. The final third deepens into espresso and dark cocoa with a gentle kick of black pepper, the smoke turning denser and more enveloping while old wood and supple leather linger on the finish.
