The Cohiba Maduro 5 Secretos belongs to the Maduro 5 line, which Habanos S.A. unveiled at the Habano Festival in February 2007 as the brand’s headline release of that year. It stands alongside Cohiba’s celebrated Clasica and 1492 (Siglos) families, yet it goes its own way with a dark, oily maduro wrapper. The leaf is drawn from the upper priming of the plant and put through a long, natural fermentation, then rested for a full five years before rolling, a maturation that gives the name its “5.” The Secretos is the smallest of the three formats, a Petit Corona measuring 4.4 inches (roughly 110 mm) by a 40 ring gauge, with a darker band carrying the lower black stripe that marks the Maduro 5 range.
The opening third leans into cedar and freshly ground coffee bean, framed by a gentle sweetness that hints at what is coming. As the cigar settles into its middle, the maduro wrapper takes the lead, layering creamy chocolate and cocoa over darker fruit suggestions of cherry and plum. The final third gathers weight and complexity, where roasted almond, leather, and caramel meet a measured turn of spice. Body sits in the medium to full range, dense and creamy on the palate rather than sharp, which is impressive for a smoke of this modest size.
Although the wrapper has already enjoyed five years of maturation, the Secretos still rewards patience in the humidor. Keep it stored at around 65 to 70 percent relative humidity and a steady temperature near 18 degrees Celsius, or roughly 64 to 68 Fahrenheit. Time tends to round off any youthful edge and let the cocoa and coffee tones knit together more seamlessly. A seasoned humidor and a reliable hygrometer are all you need to hold these in fine condition over the months and years.
This cigar is built for the smoker who appreciates Cohiba pedigree but does not always have an hour to spare. The short Petit Corona format delivers genuine depth in a smoke that fits comfortably into a coffee break or an evening nightcap. It will appeal to maduro enthusiasts and to anyone curious to see how Cohiba interprets a dark, fermented wrapper. Newcomers should treat the medium to full body with a little respect, ideally not on an empty stomach.
What size is the Cohiba Maduro 5 Secretos?
It is a Petit Corona vitola, measuring about 4.4 inches (110 mm) in length with a 40 ring gauge, the smallest of the three Maduro 5 formats.
How strong is it?
The Secretos sits in the medium to full range. It carries notable richness and a creamy density that feels fuller than its compact dimensions might suggest.
Why is it called Maduro 5?
The “5” refers to the five years of aging the maduro wrapper leaf undergoes before the cigar is rolled, a key feature of this Cohiba line introduced in 2007.
