About the Partagas Linea Maestra Maestro

The Linea Maestra is the line Partagas built for its own legend. Every leaf comes from San Luis, the small stretch of Vuelta Abajo that the factory reserves for its finest work, and the Maestro is the vitola that carries the line. At 5.2 inches by 56 ring gauge it is a robusto extra with the tapered 109 head that Cuban rollers reserve for ceremonial releases, finished by hand so the cap opens cleanly under a single cut.

It arrives in the blue lacquered cabinet of twenty that has become the signature of the line. Alongside the Serie D No. 4 and the Lusitanias it completes the modern Partagas range, and it sits at the top of it. If you are weighing it against the rest of the marca, our Partagas price guide lays the range out side by side.

Flavor profile by thirds

The first third is deliberately quiet for a Partagas. Malted chocolate and warm cedar lead, with a light almond sweetness underneath and only a suggestion of the pepper to come. The draw is generous through the 109 head and the smoke is thick from the first inch.

The middle third is where the Maestro earns its name. Black pepper arrives over a base of espresso and saddle leather, and the chocolate deepens rather than fades. A dry, biscotti-like note runs through the middle and keeps the richness from turning heavy.

The final third is full without being aggressive. Earth, roasted nuts and a long peppery finish, with the cedar returning late. Smoked slowly it holds its balance to the band, which is unusual in a cigar of this strength.

Pairings

An aged Cuban rum is the natural companion, seven years and up, where the caramel meets the chocolate of the first third. A Speyside single malt works for the same reason. For the final third, reach for something with weight: an Armagnac, a tawny port, or simply strong Cuban coffee, which sharpens the pepper instead of fighting it. Avoid anything delicate; the Maestro will walk straight over a light wine.

Aging and storage

The Maestro smokes well on arrival, which is not true of every Partagas. Given two to three years at a steady 65 to 68 percent humidity the pepper settles and the chocolate and almond notes come forward, and the line is built to reward longer patience than that. Keep the box intact in a well seasoned humidor and let the cedar tray do its work. Our guide on how long cigars last covers the conditions in detail.

Who it is for

This is a cigar for the smoker who already knows the marca. If Partagas is new to you, start with the Serie D No. 4 and come back to the Maestro once the house pepper feels familiar. For the collector, it is one of the few recent Cuban releases that belongs in the humidor on merit rather than scarcity alone.

Frequently asked questions

What size is the Partagas Linea Maestra Maestro?
It measures 5.2 inches, 132 mm, with a 56 ring gauge, and it is finished with a tapered 109 head. The box holds twenty cigars.

How strong is it?
Medium to full. It starts gently and builds, so the strength is easier to manage than the ring gauge suggests, but it is not a first Cuban cigar.

What makes the Linea Maestra different from the rest of Partagas?
The tobacco is drawn exclusively from San Luis in Vuelta Abajo rather than from the wider Partagas blend, and the cigars are rolled and finished to a higher specification. It is the most exclusive line the brand has released in decades.

  • Store cigars horizontally and rotate every 30 days.
  • Avoid direct light, drafts and external aromas.
  • Long aging accentuates aromatic complexity.
