Unveiled at the XXI Habanos Festival in 2019, the cigar takes the brand’s iconic Double Coronas format and fills it with leaves drawn from the 2013 harvest, a vintage that was rested for several years before rolling. Presented in lacquered, numbered boxes of fifteen with a limited run of just 5,000 cases, it is a piece aimed squarely at collectors and patient smokers.
The opening third is gentle and inviting, leaning into the cedar and light spice that define the Hoyo character, with a creamy texture that coats the palate. Decent corona but not my favorite from Hoyo de Monterrey. The Hoyo De Monterrey Double Coronas Gran Reserva Cosecha 2013 has good flavor - vanilla and spice - but didn't wow me like other Cubans I've had. Construction was fine, burn was mostly even. It's good, just not exceptional. Worth trying though.
